Color fade in exterior paints
Ultraviolet exposure may have slowly faded the colors on your home. We stopped painting at the corner of this home to make a visual statement. On the right is the original paint, applied 8 years ago. On the left, is freshly applied paint mixed in the same brand, type and color formulation. This is cedar lap siding facing southeast with no shade.

UV Fade is a big problem with unprotected areas and using dark & bright colors. There are solutions to this problem. The Aura paint line from Benjamin Moore uses waterborne colorants that are colorfast. Sherwin Willaims uses a special tint system called Enviro-toners which are also waterborne. Pittsburg paint also has waterborne colorant which needs to be specially requested. Using stock paints for dark colors is also available through Benjamin Moore and Kelly Moore paint companies.
